RuleSpace and Broadcom announce the launch of a program to include RuleSpace's Online Lookup Service on all Broadcom Cable Modems
Portland, Ore. And Irvine, Cal. - June 6, 2003 - RuleSpace, LLC, and Broadcom Corporation have launched a program to provide embedded Parental Controls on all Broadcom-based cable modems. Broadcom will integrate RuleSpace's Online Lookup Tool Kit (OLTK) on their DOCSIS chipset. This will allow all Broadcom-based cable modems and home gateways to access RuleSpace's Online Lookup Service (OLS). The OLS is a globally distributed database containing over 50 million accurately categorized URLs.
The resulting reference design will have a fully functional Parental Controls application that can be then offered by ISPs, MSOs, and OEMs to broadband users as a bundled feature or a stand-alone product.
Having Parental Controls on the modem enables the home user to centrally configure Parental Controls for all PC's in the home. Unlike other consumer-oriented Parental Controls products, this solution eliminates the need to download and install any client software on their PC, or to keep client-side lists up to date. Also, the system is very difficult to circumvent, unlike software packages that can be easily uninstalled.
