The Online Lookup Service

RuleSpace offers to its partners the largest, most accurate database of category information about websites available on the market. RuleSpace has long been the leader in offering this as an OEM service so that you can focus on creating and delivering the applications you excel at without having to spend time and resources creating and maintaining databases of Sites for an ever-changing Internet.

The RuleSpace Online Lookup Service (OLS) is a high-speed, redundant, and scalable way to deliver previously determined category ratings for URLs. The OLS has tens of millions of accurately categorized URLs in a master database maintained by RuleSpace. These URLs are categorized at different “nodes” -- host, domain, directory, or page -- depending on the best way to rate the content.

By using the Online Lookup Service, client applications have the ability to lookup category information about URLs without having to store the entire database -- over two gigabytes of data – locally. These lookups are done by using the the Categorization and Filtering Interface to lookup URLs against the database stored on the Category Servers.

The Online Lookup Service has category ratings for over 70 categories in over 15 languages. For an exact matrix of category:language pair coverage, please contact RuleSpace. RuleSpace adds categories and language coverage regularly as it sees interest in a category increase, the amount of content in a particular category:language pair increase, or in response to customer requests. All RuleSpace systems support Roman and non-Roman (DBCS, UTF8) encoding.

Using the RuleSpace Backend processes over 20,000 new sites are added every day to the Online Lookup Service, and updates are made available every day incrementally, or as a complete download.

The combination of the CFI and the OLS can also automatically detect many embedded URLs in query strings, including for web sites that use non-standard characters as substitutions for periods and slashes in the actual target URL.

There is no need to lookup every URL every time the application requests that URL as the CFI can be configured to cache the results of a lookup against the Online Lookup Service.

The OLS database server serves lookup responses speeds of up to 50,000 lookups per second, and can be hosted in RuleSpace’s globally-hosted access points, in the customer datacenter, or be embedded in your application.
